The Lagos State Government has ordered a full investigation into an incident involving an ambulance near the finishing line of the 11th Access Bank Lagos City Marathon. The vehicle, which had been deployed as part of the marathon’s official medical emergency response team, was reportedly conveying runners who had earlier required medical attention when it came in contact with a female non-athlete within the event arena.
According to preliminary reports, officials at the scene immediately alerted the ambulance crew to stop. Emergency responders swiftly attended to the woman, administered first aid and subsequently transported her to a public health facility for further medical evaluation. The state government said it takes the safety of participants, officials and spectators at major public events seriously, stressing that a thorough review would be conducted to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident.
