A mother has been brought before a Lagos Magistrate Court following allegations that she used a razor blade to inflict deep wounds on her eight-year-old son.
​The incident, which reportedly took place in the Alakuko area of Lagos State, was uncovered and brought to light by the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA).
​According to officials, the agency intervened immediately upon receiving a distress report regarding the severe physical abuse of the minor. The child was rescued and provided with urgent medical attention, while the mother was apprehended by law enforcement. The siblings of rescued child will remain under state custody until proper living condition is determined.
​Speaking on the development, the DSVA reiterated the state government’s zero-tolerance policy for child abuse and domestic violence. The agency emphasized its commitment to ensuring that perpetrators of such violence face the full wrath of the law, while ensuring the safety and rehabilitation of the victim.
​The suspect has been officially arraigned, and judicial proceedings are currently underway to determine her sentencing.
The DSVA urges members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspected cases of child abuse or domestic violence through the state’s toll-free emergency hotlines.
