The Ojora of Ijora and Iganmu Kingdom, Oba AbdulFatai Oyegbemi, has removed six of his chiefs for attending a Labour Party campaign flag-off in Apapa without his consent, accusing them of violating palace protocol and impersonating his authority at a political event. The chiefs: Chief Lateef Ojora (Bale Alaba Oro), Chief Saliu Biliamin (Bale Alafia Dodoro), Chief Taiwo Hassan (Bale Oke Ira), Chief Idris Ojora (Bale Abule Kere), Chief Hakeem Oseni (Bale Mosafejo Amukoko), and Chief Sule Balogun (Balogun of Abule Kere), were reportedly summoned to the palace and formally dismissed during a meeting held Monday.
Oba Oyegbemi expressed disappointment over what he described as an “unauthorised representation” at the Labour Party gathering, stating that the chiefs had acted in breach of palace tradition by attending a political event without clearance. “No Chief should make decisions or act on my behalf without my explicit consent,” the monarch reportedly declared, stressing that their role was to uphold the traditions and values of the Ojora Kingdom, not to pursue individual political affiliations.
In a statement released Tuesday, the palace reiterated the monarch’s commitment to maintaining order and coherence within his traditional structure, while commending the current government’s ongoing development efforts in the Ojora territory. Oba Oyegbemi also reminded all remaining chiefs of the importance of transparency and loyalty, noting that traditional rulers must maintain neutrality and decorum in political matters to preserve their institutions’ integrity.
