The Ojokoro Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of Lagos State on Friday, flagged off Measles-Rubella Vaccination campaign aimed at safeguarding children and reducing preventable diseases in the area.
In his remarks at the event which held at the Kola Primary Health Center, Ojokoro, the Chairman, Mr Oluyemisi Rosiji said the council remained committed to childcare initiatives.
According to him, the council will ensure that every child receives life-saving vaccines, which includes: measles, yellow fever and poliomyelitis.
“These diseases still pose significant threats. Our interventions complement routine immunisation by reaching out to vulnerable children and expanding access to vaccines.”
Rosiji urged mothers, pregnant women and nursing mothers to use the facilities provided by Lagos State and Ojokoro LCDA to ensure a healthier population.
The Medical Officer of Health to the council, Dr Falilat Iyanda, urged mothers of children from 9 months to 14 years to vaccinate them, to prevent measles and rubella complications.
Iyanda noted that the vaccine is safe and effective when administered at the right age, stressing that it reduced risks of illness, disability and death and also gave children a healthier start.
Mrs Opeyemi Olorunlogbon, a resident, advised mothers to ignore speculations about vaccines saying: “bring your children to the clinic for prevention, because it is better than cure.
“Safeguarding them from deadly diseases is more important than hearsay,” she added
The event was also used to honour babies that were born early in the year, which symbolised that care and protection should begin from birth for stronger growth and development.
