The Lagos State Judiciary has announced that its 2026 annual long vacation will commence on July 20 in Lagos, with the court break running until September 11 while designated vacation judges continue to hear urgent matters across the state.
The vacation, approved by the Chief Judge of Lagos State, Justice Kazeem Alogba, is in line with the High Court of Lagos State (Civil Procedure) Rules, 2019, according to a notice signed by the Chief Registrar, Mr Tajudeen Elias.
Despite the court break, designated vacation judges will sit across judicial divisions, including Ikeja, Lagos, Badagry, Epe, Ikorodu, Surulere/Yaba and Eti-Osa, to hear urgent civil matters throughout the period.
The judiciary clarified that the criminal division will continue to sit during the vacation, while urgent criminal matters may also be heard by vacation judges when assigned by the Chief Judge.
Parties seeking urgent hearings have been advised to file applications by summons in chambers before the appropriate vacation judge or the judge handling the substantive matter.
The notice also stated that the 2026/2027 legal year will commence on September 14, while the annual legal year service is scheduled for September 21.
