The Lagos State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development has inaugurated the 2026 World Habitat Day Planning Committee, charging members to ensure the successful organisation of the annual event.

The Permanent Secretary, Office of Physical Planning, Mr Olayinka Wasiu, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday in Ikeja, saying the annual observance provided an opportunity to reflect on the state of human settlements and reaffirm everyone’s right to adequate shelter.

Wasiu said the theme of the 2026 celebration, “Adequate Housing for All,” highlighted the need for stronger collaboration among governments, the private sector, development partners and other stakeholders to address housing challenges. He urged committee members to discharge their duties with professionalism, dedication and teamwork.

He stressed the need for a comprehensive and sustainable approach to addressing the housing deficit, noting that the Office of Physical Planning was responsible for coordinating the celebration in Lagos. He added that the committee comprised representatives from various state ministries, departments and agencies to ensure broad participation and effective planning.

Wasiu said the 2026 World Habitat Day celebration would be held on Oct. 5 at the Blue Roof, Lagos Television Complex, Agidingbi, Ikeja. He reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to policies and initiatives that promote sustainable urban development, expand access to adequate housing and improve residents’ quality of life.
