The Lagos State Government has announced that the second phase of repair works on the Ogudu–Ifako Bridge (inbound Island) will commence on Wednesday, September 3.
The Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, disclosed this in a press release on Tuesday, noting that the traffic management plan had been reviewed to reduce congestion and ensure timely completion of the project.
According to Osiyemi, the new plan was drawn from lessons learned during the earlier phase of repairs when motorists experienced heavy gridlock. He assured residents that renewed efforts had been put in place to minimise disruptions along the corridor.
Providing details of the traffic advisory, the commissioner explained that traffic inbound Oshodi and Victoria Island from Lagos–Ibadan Expressway and the Lagos Toll Gate would generally remain free-flowing. However, near the work zone, vehicles will be diverted into one lane of the three-lane carriageway, approximately 50 metres before the repair area, and will regain full access 50 metres afterwards.
For motorists heading to Oshodi, Osiyemi advised using the Ojota Slip Road to connect Ikorodu Road inward Anthony (by Taxi Park) to access their destination.
He further explained that motorists heading to Victoria Island could use the Ojota Slip Road to link Ikorodu Road inward Anthony (by Town Planning Way), then proceed to Gbagada to access the Third Mainland Bridge (inbound Lagos Island). Alternatively, they may continue along Ikorodu Road toward Funsho Williams Avenue and use Eko Bridge.
For those coming from Ikeja and its environs, motorists are advised to proceed through Maryland to connect Ikorodu Road/Funsho Williams Avenue and then use Eko Bridge to Outer Marina. They may also connect Ikorodu Road (by Taxi Park, Anthony) to access Oshodi before continuing their journey.
Osiyemi emphasised that the reviewed traffic plan was designed to strengthen coordination along the corridor as repair works resume. He appealed to motorists to cooperate with traffic management officers, maintain lane discipline, and make use of the designated alternative routes.
