The Akinsanya Olojo-Kosoko Ruling House has appealed to Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to approve the confirmation and installation of Prince Abiola Kosoko as the next Oloja of Lagos, bringing an end to the prolonged vacancy of the revered traditional stool.
In a letter dated December 5, the descendants of King Kosoko, the first Oloja of Lagos, expressed deep frustration over what they described as an unjustifiable delay, four years after their candidate was unanimously selected.
The ruling house noted that the continued vacancy has created uncertainty within the traditional institution and deprived Lagos Island of a fully constituted traditional leadership.
According to the letter, Prince Abiola Kosoko emerged as the chosen candidate on December 12, 2020, following a rigorous and transparent selection process that strictly adhered to established laws, customs and traditions governing the Oloja of Lagos stool.
The family stressed that all necessary procedures were duly followed, leaving no ambiguity about the legitimacy of his emergence. The ruling house appealed to Governor Sanwo-Olu to intervene and uphold tradition by confirming Prince Kosoko’s appointment, noting that such action would restore stability, unity and continuity within the Oloja institution.
They added that the prolonged delay has caused concern among family members and stakeholders who believe the matter has lingered longer than necessary. Reaffirming their loyalty to the Lagos State Government, the descendants expressed confidence that the governor would give the issue the urgent attention it deserves, in the interest of preserving cultural heritage and strengthening traditional governance in Lagos.
They urged the state government to act decisively to bring closure to the matter, allowing Prince Abiola Kosoko to be formally installed and assume his responsibilities as the next Oloja of Lagos after years of anticipation.
