The Kogi State Police Command says it is fully prepared to ensure a peaceful and secure atmosphere for Saturday’s by-election in the state.
The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Idris Abubakar, disclosed this while briefing journalists at the command headquarters in Lokoja on Wednesday. He said the police had deployed adequate personnel and resources to cover all polling units, collation centres, and flashpoints identified across the election areas.
Abubakar assured residents that the command was working in close synergy with other security agencies under the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) to prevent violence and maintain order throughout the exercise.
“We have mapped out comprehensive security arrangements to guarantee the safety of voters, election officials, and materials. Our men will be professional, impartial, and firm in enforcing the law,” he said.
He warned political actors, supporters, and the general public against any acts capable of breaching the peace, stressing that the police would not hesitate to arrest and prosecute offenders.
The CP also urged eligible voters to come out en masse and exercise their civic rights without fear, noting that intelligence reports had not indicated any credible threat that could disrupt the election.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is set to conduct the by-election in select constituencies in the state following the declaration of vacancies.
