The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in collaboration with Kogi Government have intercepted a large volume of illicit drugs allegedly worth millions of Naira in the state.

The Commissioner for Information, Mr Kingsley Fanwo, made the disclosure to newsmen in Lokoja.

Fanwo said the breakthrough came as a result of coordinated operation carried out by the government and NDLEA after an intelligence report.

He said the large consignment of illicit drugs, which were neatly concealed in a truck, were moving through the state to an unknown destination.

According to him, the identity of the drug kingpin and the final destination of the consignment remain undisclosed.

“Already, investigations on the matter are ongoing. We shall get to the root of it and ensure the kingpin and those involved are fished out to face the wrath of the law.

“The administration of Gov. Ahmed Ododo will continue to join hands with NDLEA in fighting against all forms of illicit drugs abuses and trafficking in the state.

“We are fixing our eyes on all the passenger routes to ensure that such deadly drugs don’t enter or pass through Kogi, ” he said.

The commissioner, however, commended the NDLEA for its relentless efforts at ensuring residents of Kogi are protected from effects of illicit drugs.
