The Kano State Government has constituted a 20-member technical committee to review the implementation of the newly approved remuneration package for academic staff of state-owned tertiary institutions.
The Head of Civil Service, Hajiya Bilkisu Shehu-Maimota, who inaugurated the committee, charged members to critically examine requests from academic staff on the implementation of the new reviewed package.
This is contained in a statement issued to newsmen by the Acting Director, Public Enlightenment, Office of the Head of Civil Service, Abdulkarim Ibrahim, on Wednesday in Kano.
“The committee was constituted to enable government to take an informed decision on the applicability and implementation of the remuneration package.
“They will collate and review requests, memoranda and supporting documents submitted by affected institutions.
“The committee will determine the applicability of the package to various categories of academic staff in the state-owned tertiary institutions,” the statement said.
It further explained that members would scrutinise relevant Federal Government approvals, circulars and policy instruments governing the review of the remuneration package.
The statement added that the committee would identify disparities in structures, grade levels and job classifications, while comparing existing remuneration structures with the newly approved federal government package.
“They will also assess the financial implications of implementing the package, including recurrent personnel costs and its immediate and medium-term impact on the state’s wage bill and budget,” it said.
The statement added that the committee would recommend appropriate administrative, financial, legislative and policy measures required to facilitate smooth implementation, if approved by the government.
It urged members to carry out the assignment with diligence, objectivity and a high sense of responsibility, and to submit a comprehensive report capable of guiding government action in line with extant guidelines.
The statement also stated that the committee would be chaired by the Commissioner for Education, Ali Haruna-Makoda.
