The Order of the Knights of St. Mulumba Nigeria (KSM) has strongly condemned the recent killings in Yelwata, Benue State, where over 200 people were reportedly murdered. The group, in a public statement signed by Worthy Supreme Knight Sir Charles Mbelede, also lamented the tragic situation of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the Catholic Diocese of Makurdi-run camp, describing the victims as vulnerable and defenseless. The Order offered prayers for the deceased and called for healing and restoration for survivors of the Yelwata violence and the victims of the Mokwa flood disaster.
KSM commended the swift response of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria and the Diocese of Makurdi in mobilising aid and spiritual support to the victims. The Order urged national and local authorities to go beyond political rhetoric and implement genuine peace and development strategies. Emphasizing the upcoming Solemnity of Sts. Peter and Paul on June 29, the Order called for nationwide prayer for peace and divine intervention in Benue State and across Nigeria.
In a show of solidarity, the KSM Abuja Metropolitan Council will pay a visit to the Yelwata community and the IDP camp to console bereaved families, support the injured, and provide humanitarian aid. The Order also expressed hope that President Tinubu’s administration and military leaders would take decisive action to end the ongoing violence and foster peace among Benue’s ethnic communities.
