The leadership of Kano State House of Assembly has denied the existence of any rift in the ruling New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), adding that contrary to claims by some online media outlets, the party, leadership and membership are all intact.
Speaking at a news conference yesterday in Kano. Majority Leader of the House, Lawan Husseini said it had become necessary to debunk the report by an online platform that 23 out of the 26 NNPP members of the House are in support of the the political slogan, “Abba Tsaya da Kafarka” – ‘Abba, stand on your feet’.
Husseini also described the report that Gov. Abba Kabir-Yusuf snubbed meetings and refused to pick the calls of the party’s national leader, Sen Rabiu Kwankwaso, as a “fabricated story by the opposition”.
The House leader also accused the opposition of trying to create another toxic situation in the State.
According to him, Abuja-based opposition politicians are the ones creating unnecessary tension to distract the Governor from fulfilling his campaign promises.
“This is a fabricated story spread by mischief makers; their aim is to cause disharmony between Gov. Yusuf and his political mentor.
“We, honorable members, are hundred per cent loyal to party leadership under Sen Kwankwanso and also solidly behind Gov. Yusuf.
“Abuja based opposition politicians are hell bent to create rancour or chaos between Kwankwaso and his political son.
“The relationship between these two gentlemen existed for decades and is beyond politics.
“We are not aware or heard of any movement or slogan calling for disunity among party members,” he said.
The leader then restated the House members’ commitment to ensuring effective service delivery.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that two Kano NNPP federal lawmakers dumped Kwankwasiyya movement on Sunday.
The two members elected on the platform of the NNPP publicly announced their departure from the Kwankwasiyya Movement under the party’s national leader, Sen Kwankwaso.
The two members are; principal officer of the House of Representatives, Aliyu Sani- Madakin Gini, who represents Kano Municipal federal constituency, Alhassan Rurum, representing Rano/Kibiya/Bunkure federal constituency of the state.
