A hippopotamus suspected to be behind the killing of a fisherman and attacks on others in the Yauri has been neutralized in Yauri Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
A viral video showed a crowd of people dragging the dead hippo attached to a canter vehicle with a long rope, on the ground amidst jubilation by the people.
It would be recalled that the killer hippo has been a nightmare to people of the area especially fishermen who are plying their daily livelihood across the river Niger in the community.
A voice was heard in the video saying that the water animal used to be a very peaceful mammal but suddenly became wild apparently in its effort to protect its calves ( as newly born hippo babies are called).
It would be recalled that the same  wild hippopotamus attacked and killed a fisherman at Yauri River bank in Yauri local government area of Kebbi state while another fisherman, Alhaji Dan Ya,u from Tunga Dan Ya’u was fatally attacked by the animal at the same Yauri River in Kebbi.
According to Alkasim Haruna Abarshi, the fisherman was fishing in the river when he was attacked by the wild hippo without any provocation.
The victim remains in a very critical condition at Yauri General hospital following that brutal hippo attack..
Abarshi disclosed that Honourable Abubakar Shuaibu Manager, the Executive Chairman, Yauri Local Government Area of Kebbi State who visited the victim at the hospital to sympathise with him also prayed for his quick recovery.
According to him, the Chairman described the victim’s condition as critical and pledged to assist him in the best way he could.
The Chairman urged precaution on the part of fishermen, admonishing them to study the river areas before embarking on their fishing business.
