The Katsina State Government has officially extended maternity leave for nursing mothers in the state civil service from three months to four months and ten days, effective immediately, according to a circular issued to all government ministries, departments, and agencies.
The extension was approved to support optimal infant nutrition and maternal health, aligning with ongoing advocacy by the First Lady and UNICEF that emphasizes the critical first months of exclusive breastfeeding. Katsina now joins a growing number of Nigerian states implementing longer paid maternity leave to promote better child and public health outcomes.
