The immediate past Secretary to the Bauchi State Government, Ibrahim Kashim, has formally picked the Nigeria Democratic Congress governorship expression of interest form ahead of the 2027 general elections, signaling the commencement of his bid to contest for the state’s top seat.
Kashim, in a statement obtained on Saturday, said the decision marked a major milestone in what he described as a collective movement aimed at building a more prosperous and united Bauchi State.
According to him, the move followed extensive consultations and encouragement from different segments of the state, including youths, women, traditional leaders, workers, farmers and members of the business community.
He stated, “On Friday, I formally picked the Expression of Interest Form to commence the process of seeking the mandate of the good people of Bauchi State to contest for the office of Governor in the 2027 General Elections under the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress.”
The former SSG noted that his aspiration was driven by a desire to consolidate development, strengthen governance and improve the living conditions of citizens across the state.
“This marks another important step in our collective journey towards building a more prosperous, secure and united Bauchi State,” Kashim said.
He added that he remained deeply humbled by the growing support and goodwill shown towards his ambition by residents from various communities across the state.
“I remain deeply humbled by the encouragement, prayers and support received from citizens across all communities, especially our youths, women, workers, farmers, traders and elders who continue to believe in the possibility of a better future for our dear state,” he added.
Political observers in Bauchi believe Kashim’s entrance into the governorship race could reshape the political landscape ahead of the 2027 elections, considering his years of experience in public administration and governance.
During his tenure as Secretary to the State Government, Kashim played prominent roles in policy coordination and implementation, earning recognition among political stakeholders and supporters who view him as a technocrat with extensive administrative experience.
His declaration is expected to intensify political activities within the Nigeria Democratic Congress as the party gradually begins consultations and preparations ahead of its primary elections.
Supporters of the former SSG have already begun mobilising across several local government areas, expressing optimism that his candidacy would bring renewed focus on infrastructure development, economic growth, education, healthcare and youth empowerment in the state.
Analysts also believe the coming months may witness increased alignments, consultations and political negotiations among aspirants and stakeholders as the race for the Bauchi Government House gathers momentum.
Although the party is yet to officially release its timetable for governorship primaries, Kashim’s early declaration is seen as a strategic move aimed at consolidating grassroots support and strengthening his political structure across the state.
Meanwhile, residents and political stakeholders are expected to closely monitor developments within the party as more aspirants may join the contest in the months ahead.
The 2027 governorship election in Bauchi State is anticipated to be one of the most keenly contested political battles in the North-East region, with major political actors already positioning themselves ahead of the polls.
