Kano State Judicial Service Commission (JSC ) has sacked a Court Registrar and suspended others in a bid to stem the wave of corruption and other breaches among judicial officers in the State
Spokesman of Kano State Judiciary, Baba Jibo Ibrahim, said in a statement earlier today (Friday, July 26) that the disciplinary action was approved at the 74th meeting of the Commission held on the 22nd of this month.
The statement disclosed that the Judiciary Public Complaints Committee had investigated a petition brought against two Court Registrars identified as Mustapha Makama Registrar C.M.C 27 and Yusuf Muhammad Yakasai Registrar C.M.C 14 Gyadi-Gyadi) who were accused of conspiracy and extortion.
According to the statement, they were found to have collected the sum of N130,000 from the petitioner under the pretense of releasing a suspect on bail which turned out to be false.
Their action, according to the committee, amounted to extortion and conspiracy involving unlawful receipt of funds.
The statement disclosed that the Commission, acting on the recommendation of the JPCC, directed Mustapha Makama to proceed on compulsory retirement having been found not to be fit and proper to continue in the service of the judiciary, while Yusuf Muhammad Yakasai, who was an accessory to the misconduct has been demoted one grade level downward.
Similarly, the JPCC also investigated a petition against a syndicate in the persons of Salisu Ado (Secretary at High Court Complex Bompai), Bilya Abdullahi (Senior Registrar High Court No. 9), Ismail Garba and Auwalu Ibrahim Khalil (Court Registrars).
They were found guilty of conspiracy, forgery and cheating for issuing a forged bank reversal court order as well as forging the signature of a magistrate.
The Commission upon adoption of the recommendation of the JPCC suspended the mentioned staff with immediate effect, the statement added.
“The Commission will continue to apply the appropriate sanctions against any erring staff particularly those saddled with judicial responsibilities in order to safeguard the integrity and accountability of the judicial system and maintain public confidence,” the statement surmised.
