The Kano State Police Command has successfully foiled a violent thuggery attack and restored public order following a clash between suspected rival ‘Yan Daba groups in the Gyadi-Gyadi area of the State, leading to the arrest of six suspects. This achievement is in line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, *IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on visibility policing and proactive response to public disturbances.
INCIDENT SUMMARY: On 27th April 2026 at about 1320hrs, a distress call was received indicating that suspected ‘Yan Daba thugs had mobilised for a clash. Upon receipt, patrol teams were immediately deployed to the scene. On arrival, officers observed a violent clash between suspected thugs. In the process, an ambulance was vandalised, while attempts were made to attack other places. The thugs were promptly confronted by the Police. However, they later regrouped and attacked Police officers with dangerous weapons and stones. The attack was professionally repelled by the operatives. The hoodlums then fled to Farm Centre Market, where they attempted to break into shops and loot property.
POLICE RESPONSE AND ARRESTS: Reinforcement was swiftly mobilised to the scene. The thugs were further dispersed and six suspects were arrested. Calm and normalcy have since been restored to the affected areas.
COMMENDATION AND WARNING: The Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, sfipma, mnim, mnips, masis, commends the gallantry, restraint, and professionalism of the officers of Farm Centre Division and the reinforcement teams for their swift response that prevented further breakdown of law and order and loss of property. The CP sternly warns that the Command will not tolerate any form of thuggery, ‘Yan Daba activities, or disturbance of public peace in Kano State. Parents and guardians are advised to caution their wards, as anyone found fomenting trouble will be arrested and prosecuted accordingly.
ONGOING INVESTIGATION: Investigation into the incident is ongoing to apprehend other fleeing suspects and identify sponsors of the clash. Further developments will be communicated to the public. The Command appreciates the cooperation of law-abiding residents who provided timely information and urges the public to continue reporting suspicious activities to the nearest police station or via the Command’s emergency lines.
