The Kano State Government has expressed confidence that the lingering crisis surrounding the Kano Emirate will soon be brought to an end.
The Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Waiya, gave the assurance on Tuesday while briefing journalists in Kano following the defection of Governor Abba Yusuf from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to Waiya, the state government remains committed to restoring stability and unity within the traditional institution, stressing that ongoing consultations and political realignments would help fast-track a lasting solution to the dispute.
“The issue of the Kano Emirate is receiving the attention it deserves, and very soon, the people of the state will witness a resolution,” the commissioner said.
The Kano Emirate crisis dates back to events surrounding the deposition of Muhammadu Sanusi II, who was appointed Emir during the administration of former governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
Sanusi II was later dethroned in 2020 by the administration of former governor Abdullahi Ganduje, which subsequently appointed Aminu Ado Bayero as the new Emir of Kano.
Since then, the emirship has remained a subject of legal and political contention, generating deep divisions within the state’s political and traditional circles.
Waiya noted that Governor Yusuf’s recent political move was part of broader efforts to strengthen governance and foster peace, adding that resolving the emirate matter remains a top priority of the administration.
He urged residents of the state to remain calm and law-abiding, assuring them that the government would act in the best interest of Kano and its historical institutions.
