The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has challenged members of the Renewed Hope Partners (RHP) to mobilise about 150 million supporters across the country in support of the re-election bid of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Kalu gave the charge when he received a delegation of the support group drawn from Edo, Ekiti, and Katsina states, reaffirming the group’s commitment to advancing and promoting the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President across the country. The Deputy Speaker, who is also the founder of the Renewed Hope Partners, said the group has a critical role to play in mobilising grassroots support and communicating the achievements of the current administration to Nigerians.
According to him, the Renewed Hope Partners was established as a platform to promote good governance, democratic participation, and national development, while also serving as a vehicle to highlight the policies and programmes of the Tinubu administration. He explained that the target of mobilising 150 million supporters reflects the group’s ambition to build one of the largest grassroots political movements in Nigeria’s democratic history.
Kalu stressed that the Renewed Hope Agenda of the current administration is focused on economic reform, infrastructure development, social investment, education, healthcare, and security. He noted that support groups such as Renewed Hope Partners must go beyond political campaigns and actively engage citizens on government policies, reforms, and development programmes.
The Deputy Speaker also emphasized the importance of strengthening Nigeria’s democracy through civic engagement, voter education, and participation in the democratic process. He said the role of support groups should include educating citizens on governance, encouraging peaceful political participation, and promoting national unity.
Members of the delegation expressed their readiness to work toward the realisation of the mobilisation target, stating that the group has structures across states, local government areas, and wards. They said their strategy would include community engagement, town hall meetings, youth mobilisation, women-focused political participation programmes, and media campaigns aimed at highlighting government achievements.
Political observers say support groups have increasingly become influential in Nigeria’s political space, especially in mobilising grassroots support and shaping public perception. They noted that with Nigeria’s large population and growing youth demographic, political mobilisation would play a major role in determining the outcome of future elections.
Kalu reiterated that the Renewed Hope Partners would continue to expand its membership base across all regions of the country, with a focus on inclusiveness, national unity, and development. He added that the group would also partner with other organisations and community leaders to promote the Renewed Hope Agenda and ensure that citizens are well informed about government programmes and opportunities.
He further stated that the ultimate goal of the Renewed Hope Partners is not only to support the re-election of President Tinubu but also to contribute to the strengthening of democratic institutions, policy continuity, and long-term national development.
The meeting ended with a renewed commitment by members of the group to intensify mobilisation efforts across Edo, Ekiti, Katsina, and other states, as part of a broader nationwide campaign to build support for the administration and its policies.
Analysts believe that the mobilisation drive, if effectively executed, could significantly influence political participation and voter engagement ahead of the next general elections, while also shaping the national political landscape in the coming years.
