Kaduna State Government has confirmed that its Subsidised Transport Scheme (KSTS) will kick off a free bus service for civil servants, retirees, and students starting from Monday, July 7. The service, designed to ease rising living costs, is set to run for an initial six months before transitioning to a 60% fare subsidy for the general public.

According to Inuwa Ibrahim, Director‑General of the Kaduna State Transport Regulatory Authority (KADSTRA), the scheme will serve eligible public servants upon presentation of a valid staff ID and matching NIN, while students must wear full school uniforms. Recognised security personnel may also access buses with a proper ID. The service will operate on three designated routes, including Rigachikun–Kawo–Sabo and Sokoto Road–Tudun Wada corridors.

This launch follows President Tinubu’s inauguration of 100 compressed natural gas (CNG) buses in Kaduna on June 19. Ibrahim emphasised that the scheme will operate with strict order and security oversight to prevent chaos and misuse.
