The Kaduna State Government has dismissed recent accusations by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Social Democratic Party (SDP) alleging sabotage in the conduct of the just-concluded elections in the state.
In separate statements earlier in the week, both opposition parties claimed that certain electoral processes in parts of the state were deliberately manipulated to frustrate their chances, citing alleged irregularities in voting logistics, voter intimidation, and delays in result transmission.
Reacting on Thursday, the state’s Commissioner for Information, Mohammed Shehu, described the allegations as “baseless, misleading, and aimed at discrediting a transparent exercise.”
Shehu maintained that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) conducted the polls in strict compliance with the law and in the presence of accredited observers, party agents, and security personnel. He added that the election outcome reflected “the free will of the people of Kaduna State.”
>We find it unfortunate that some political actors, after failing to convince the electorate with their manifestos and campaigns, now resort to making unfounded claims to create tension,” he said.
He urged the ADC and SDP to seek redress through the appropriate legal channels rather than “inflaming the public with unverified accusations.”
INEC’s Kaduna Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Asmau Maikudi, also dismissed claims of sabotage, stating that logistical challenges in a few areas did not compromise the integrity of the process.
Meanwhile, civil society groups monitoring the elections have called for calm, advising aggrieved parties to present their evidence before election tribunals in line with democratic practice.
The elections, which saw a keen contest between major political parties, have sparked mixed reactions across the state, but authorities insist the process remains credible and lawful.
