The National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Julius Abure, has strongly rejected allegations labeling him as a “spoiler” working for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), countering that he was actually the driving force behind Peter Obi’s historic 2023 presidential run.
Speaking at a recent party stakeholder engagement, Abure dismissed the rumors as a coordinated smear campaign designed to tarnish his reputation and fracture the opposition.
He emphasized that without his leadership and unwavering commitment, the “Obidient” movement would not have found a viable political platform.”To call me an APC spoiler is not only malicious but a total rewrite of history,” Abure stated.
“When others were hesitant, I championed Peter Obi’s candidacy, opened the doors of the Labour Party, and risked everything to ensure we mounted a formidable challenge against the status quo.”
Abure maintained that his administration successfully transitioned the Labour Party from a relatively minor political player into a powerful national movement capable of challenging the two major parties.
The LP Chairman attributed the ongoing internal party leadership tussles to external forces attempting to hijack the party’s structure ahead of future election cycles. He urged party loyalists and the public to disregard the “spoiler” narrative, calling instead for a unified front to strengthen the opposition.
The allegations against Abure stem from long-running internal divisions within the Labour Party, with various factions accusing the leadership of compromising the party’s independence.
By firmly linking his legacy to Peter Obi’s standard-bearing campaign, Abure seeks to solidify his position and reclaim the trust of the party’s vibrant base.
