“Jonathan was advised to maintain his statesman role and consolidate peace in the Niger Delta rather than engage in another round of political contest,” one source was quoted as saying.
Although Jonathan has not publicly declared interest in the 2027 presidential election, reports of behind-the-scenes consultations have continued to fuel speculation about his possible return to the political field.
Meanwhile, political observers say the renewed pressure reflects growing realignments ahead of 2027, as various regional blocs and interest groups begin to position themselves for relevance in the next electoral cycle.
Within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), where Jonathan remains an influential figure, reactions have been mixed — with some of his loyalists urging him to consider a comeback, while others believe supporting Tinubu could preserve regional influence and national stability.
Neither Jonathan nor his media aides have issued an official statement on the matter, but close associates suggest the former president is “carefully weighing his options” and consulting widely before making any political move.
