Israeli President Isaac Herzog has issued a heartfelt plea to the global community, urging nations to rally in support of Israel as it continues its struggle against hostile forces.

This appeal came during a poignant ceremony commemorating the one-year anniversary of the horrific terrorist attack orchestrated by Hamas.

Speaking on Monday at the 2023 Nova music festival, held near the border with Gaza, Herzog described the attack as “a scar on humanity” and “a scar on the face of the Earth.”

On this tragic date a year ago, terrorists from the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas, along with other extremist factions, infiltrated the border, resulting in the deaths of over 1,200 individuals attending the festival.

Herzog emphasized the imperative for the world to recognize and comprehend the situation, stating that to alter the trajectory of history and foster peace, there must be unwavering support for Israel in its ongoing battle against its adversaries. “We are fighting the battle of the free world,” he declared.

In the aftermath of the attack, Israel responded with intense bombardment and a military incursion into the Gaza Strip, escalating tensions in the region and pushing the Middle East to the brink of a broader conflict.

On the preceding Sunday, tens of thousands gathered at various events across the globe, both to honor the victims of the October 7 attack and to express solidarity with the Palestinian people amid a year marked by warfare in Gaza. Solly Laniado, one of the organizers of a memorial event in Tel Aviv, shared his sentiments, stating, “Coming to this event one year after this terrible massacre that happened on October 7 is very touching.”

As this anniversary unfolds, Israel remains actively engaged in military operations in Gaza and is also embroiled in a new conflict to the north with Hezbollah, a group allied with Hamas. Additionally, Israel is preparing to respond to a recent missile attack attributed to Iran, heightening concerns of an even more extensive conflict in the region.
