The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the official timetable for the 2027 general elections in line with the provisions of the 2022 Electoral Act.
The timetable was unveiled on Friday at a news conference held at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja by the INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan.
According to Amupitan, the presidential election is scheduled to hold on Saturday, February 20, 2027. He said the release of the timetable was part of the Commission’s commitment to early planning, transparency and effective election management.
The INEC chairman explained that the timeline would guide political parties, aspirants, civil society organisations and other stakeholders in preparing adequately for the electoral process.
Amupitan noted that the 2022 Electoral Act mandates the Commission to publish an election timetable well ahead of the polls to ensure compliance with statutory timelines, including party primaries, submission of candidates’ names and campaigns.
He assured Nigerians that INEC would continue to strengthen its operational capacity, voter education programmes and technological deployment to deliver credible, free and fair elections in 2027.
The Commission urged political parties and stakeholders to study the timetable carefully and adhere strictly to all guidelines and deadlines, warning that failure to comply with the provisions of the Electoral Act would attract sanctions.
INEC also reaffirmed its readiness to work with security agencies, the media and civil society groups to ensure a peaceful and transparent electoral process across the country.
