The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially declared Asogwa Ikeje Israel of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the Enugu North Senatorial District by-election.

The Returning Officer, Professor Christian Ezeibe, announced the official results on Sunday, June 21, 2026, following the conclusion of voting across the district’s six local government areas on Saturday.

According to the electoral umpire, Asogwa secured a landslide victory with 162,360 votes, heavily outpacing his closest rival Dr. Nestor Ezeme (PDP) with 9,299 votes.

Professor Ezeibe confirmed that the election was conducted out of a total of 184,094 accredited voters across the zone, certifying that Asogwa met all statutory requirements to be declared the winner and Senator-elect.

The Enugu North Senatorial seat became vacant following the tragic passing of the previous representative, Senator Okey Ezea, who died at a London hospital in November 2025.

The high-stakes by-election spanned six local government areas; Igbo-Etiti, Igbo-Eze North, Igbo-Eze South, Nsukka, Udenu and Uzo-Uwani.

Reacting to the landslide, Samson Ezea, the Director of Media and Strategy Communication for the Ikeje Asogwa Campaign Organization, stated that the wide margin reflects the “overwhelming support” enjoyed by the APC candidate across the entire senatorial zone. Asogwa is now set to take his seat in the 10th National Assembly.
