The Owerri Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (OCCIMA), led by its President, Chief Charles Okeke, paid a courtesy visit to the Imo State Internal Revenue Service (IIRS).
They were received by the Executive Chairman of IIRS, Justice R. Okoye (FCA). The purpose of the visit was to enhance productivity, strengthen collaboration, and address revenue challenges facing businesses in the state.
During the engagement, OCCIMA leadership raised concerns on issues affecting members, and the need of Enhanced sensitization to foster voluntary tax compliance among informal sectors.
In response, Okoye reaffirmed IIRS’ commitment to a business-friendly tax system that encourages growth while improving IGR for the state.
He emphasized that IIRS is focused on Collaboration, which has yielded visible productivity, and to a large extent Promoted voluntary compliance through education and engagement programs while emphasizing that the adoption of Revenue Management system has led to a significant increase in tax collections seamlessly, and has paved way to curb multiple taxation which will ease the burden on businesses.
The Chairman also assured OCCIMA of IIRS’ readiness to work closely with the business community to ensure a transparent, efficient, and sustainable revenue system that supports the Shared Prosperity agenda of Imo State.
