In continuation of its tax enforcement exercise in the State, the  Osun Internal Revenue Service (OIRS)  has sealed off the Prism steel mill in Ilorin, Ifelodun Local Government for alleged tax evasion.

According to a statement yesterday (Friday, August 16) by the information officer of the Agency, Oluwaseun Ayeni, the tax enforcement team led by the chairman of OIRS, Adesola Adewumi, ordered the closure of some business premises due to their nonchalant attitude to tax payments and harmonized demand notice.

“Prism Steel Rolling Mill and others have been served harmonized demand notice for quite some time to fulfil their statutory obligations to the state government but failed to help themselves,” the OIRS said in the statement by Ayeni.

“The refusal to fulfill the company’s responsibility to the state led to sealing of its business premises,” the statement added.

The statement quoted Adewumi, Chairman of the Agency, who had explained that prior deadlines had been given to all businesses in the state to pay up their bill, as expressing dissatisfaction at their refusal to proceed with payments to the coffers of the government, disclosing that all sealed businesses in the state failed to comply with payments despite the grace given by the state governor since ending of July this year.

“We are lucky to have this type of governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke in Osun State who doesn’t want any business to be sealed, giving grace till 31st of July this year to business owners to do the needful,” Adewumi said.

He therefore implored all businesses in the state to rise to their responsibilities without giving the state government the trouble of running after them for any of their statutory obligations.
