The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Disu, on Thursday paid a strategic assessment visit to the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) in Kuru, near Jos, following recent attacks on the facility by unidentified gunmen.
​The police chief was represented during the visit by Isyaku Muhammed, the Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) in charge of Training and Development.
​The high-powered delegation visited the premium strategic institution to evaluate the extent of the security breaches and to review existing security protocols on the campus.
​During the assessment, DIG Muhammed met with the management of the institute to get a first-hand briefing on the tactics used by the assailants and the immediate response of security personnel on the ground.
​Addressing the leadership and staff of NIPSS, DIG Muhammed emphasized that the police leadership views the security of the institute as a national priority.
The IGP promised an immediate review and fortification of the security architecture surrounding Kuru and its environs. Plans were outlined to enhance collaboration between the police, internal campus security, and other security agencies to prevent future incursions.
Assurance was given that intelligence units are actively tracking the perpetrators to bring them to justice.
​”The National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies is a critical national asset,” the DIG stated during the visit. “The Inspector General of Police is fully committed to ensuring that learning, research, and policy formulation continue here in a completely safe and secure environment.”
​The management of NIPSS expressed gratitude to the IGP for the prompt intervention and the delegation’s visit. They noted that the physical presence of the police leadership serves as a major morale booster for both the staff and the participants of the institute, reinforcing confidence in the nation’s security apparatus.
