A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Joe Igbokwe, has spoken out on the heated confrontation between the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and a naval officer in Abuja, describing the officer’s conduct as “horrible” and “representing evil.”
Igbokwe, in a post on his social media page on Tuesday, threw his weight behind Wike’s actions during the face-off, which occurred at the disputed Gaduwa land site in the Federal Capital Territory. He argued that the incident highlighted the deep-rooted corruption and sense of entitlement surrounding land ownership in Abuja.
“The naval officer’s attitude was horrible and represents everything wrong with our system,” Igbokwe wrote. “What we saw in that video is not just indiscipline but a reflection of how some people believe they can seize government property or bend the law to suit their interests.”
The APC stalwart praised Wike for what he described as a firm and fearless response in defending the integrity of the FCT administration.
According to him, the minister’s intervention was necessary to reassert government authority and restore sanity to land allocation and enforcement processes in the capital.
“Wike was right to stand his ground. Abuja must not be turned into a jungle where uniformed men and their collaborators take over lands unlawfully,” Igbokwe added.
The confrontation, which has since gone viral on social media, showed Wike and the naval officer engaging in a tense exchange over ownership claims to the land in question.
The altercation drew mixed reactions from the public, with some condemning Wike’s approach while others applauded his firm stance against impunity.
Igbokwe’s comments add to the growing national conversation on land corruption, power abuse, and the need for discipline among security and public officials.
He urged Nigerians to support efforts aimed at cleaning up the system and ensuring that “no one, no matter how highly placed, is above the law.”
