The Vice-Presidential Candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, launched a scathing attack on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, declaring that he would abandon his own wife if she became president and governed Nigeria like the incumbent administration.

Speaking during a political interaction in Abuja at 11:40 AM WAT, the former Governor of Rivers State criticised the current administration’s economic performance, security record, and policy direction.

”So tomorrow, if my wife becomes president and is doing what Tinubu is doing, I’ll be mad to follow my wife, despite my emotional attachment to her. It’s either she changes, or I leave her,” Amaechi stated.

Amaechi urged citizens to set aside ethnic, religious, and political affiliations ahead of the 2027 general elections and assess political leaders strictly by their governance record.

”I expect Nigerians not to… forget religion, forget politics, forget ethnicity. Just abandon Tinubu,” Amaechi said. “There’s a difference between Tinubu’s team and our team. They have been tested, so you know that the next four years you will die. We have not been tested, so give us a chance.”

Acknowledging his past public roles, Amaechi noted that his track record as governor and minister remains open to public scrutiny.

Criticising key economic policies such as the floating of the Naira and fuel subsidy removal, Amaechi outlined the ADC’s alternative policy proposals.

He introduced the concept of a “Production Subsidy” aimed at lowering domestic energy costs through dual pricing for crude oil. Under this strategy, domestic modular refiners and local processing facilities would receive crude oil at heavily discounted rates compared to prevailing international market rates.

He argued that artificially driving down domestic refined fuel prices through targeted supply allocations would effectively curb skyrocketing inflation and reduce overall transportation and manufacturing overhead nationwide.

Responding to the remarks, All Progressives Congress (APC) National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, dismissed Amaechi’s statements as political grandstanding, maintaining that the Tinubu administration’s economic reforms are laying the foundation for long-term national stability.

Conversely, ADC National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, defended Amaechi, stating that the ADC ticket offers a clear alternative focused on economic recovery, security, and job creation for Nigerians.
