The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Vice Chairman (South-South), Chief Daniel Osi Orbih, describing his passing as the loss of a true friend and a committed political ally.
The late politician passed away on Monday, August 31, 2026, at the age of 64. His demise was formally announced in Abuja by his family in a statement signed by Francis Udukhomoi Orbih, Esq., on behalf of the family of Chief M.C.K. Orbih.
Reacting to the news on Tuesday afternoon, September 1, 2026, in Abuja, Wike conveyed his grief through an official statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka.
”Dan Osi Orbih was everything anyone could desire in a friendship and political associate,” Wike stated. “His death is painful and marks the fall of one of the biggest trees in the political forest of Edo State. But we cannot question God; He gives, and He takes.”
The Minister extended his condolences to Orbih’s family, noting his contributions as a veteran political strategist and a man of faith. He prayed for the repose of the late PDP leader’s soul and urged well-wishers to support the family with prayers during their time of grief.
He Survived by; His wife, Mrs. Florence Orbih; daughters, Ms. Winifred Anwosiobor Orbih and Dr. Mildred Omonemi Orbih; and extended family members.
Chief Orbih was a pivotal figure in South-South politics, having served as the Edo State PDP Chairman from 2008 to 2019 before rising to the national leadership of the party. Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family in due course.
