Nigerian-born international investigative journalist, Mr. David Hundeyin, has slammed the APC administrations of former President Muhammadu Buhari and incumbent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as lackeys of the West who were imposed upon Nigerians to strictly implement policies that promote Western interests in Nigeria and the subregion as part of the West’s war against China’s burgeoning global political and economic influence.
Essentially, Nigeria, he said, is the undeclared theatre in the West African subregion for the raging war of global political and economic influence between China and the West led by the United States.
“I told everyone who cared to listen that Bola Tinubu, like Muhammadu Buhari, was given one set of policy directives by the American interests that put him in Aso Rock: severely reduce the value of Nigerian wealth and curtail local purchasing power,” he wrote on his verified X handle.
According to him, part of the directives is also to “pauperise Nigeria’s middle classes who can then be picked off as cheap immigrant labour by the US and its NATO allies (this part of the manifesto actually appeared in print in a major western daily newspaper); reduce the size and influence of Nigeria’s economy in Africa; ensure Nigeria’s industrial capacity does not grow, and make energy for local industrial production as expensive and inaccessible as possible.”
In addition, Tinubu, Hundeyin further alleged, is to “stonewall any new infrastructure agreements with the Chinese government, thus ensuring that Nigeria largely fails to benefit from the time-limited, once-in-a-century economic opportunity that is the Belt and Road Initiative, and drastically reduce the size of the existing economic partnership with China (naira-yuan swap deal goes into the dustbin), ensure that import bill settlement remains dollar-denominated even though that makes no economic sense for Nigeria.”
“Since the US puppets were successfully installed in 2015, Nigeria – a developing economy – has not started a SINGLE major economic infrastructure project,” Hundeyin lamented. “That is, nine years without any meaningful attempt to grow the economy – not even a road (except you count that Lekki Coastal Road thing that directly benefits the new US Embassy site on Eko Atlantic).
EVERY SINGLE (emphasis his) federal infrastructure project that has been commissioned since 2015 was started by Goodluck Jonathan: 2nd Niger Bridge, Lagos – Ibadan SGR, Abuja – Kaduna SGR, MMA Terminal 2 – all GEJ projects! Eight years of Buhari and 17 months of Tinubu have not yielded ONE infrastructure project that can grow an economy.”
Sneering that what Nigeria has had in 114 months of what he described as American puppet show (the Tinubu administration) “is an engineered currency crisis that has reduced our purchasing power by ONE THOUSAND PERCENT,” Hundeyin highlighted other depressing statistics to demonstrate the downward trend Nigeria’s development trajectory has taken as a result of the unwholesome relationship between the APC-led federal administrations since 2015.
(There are also) “the loss of 50% of our national economy, which went from a GDP of $568bn to $258bn; a huge spike in dollar-denominated foreign debt – most of which we actually did not need, and is now a millstone around our collective neck; an exponential increase in terrorism and population displacement that (has) pushed us into the world’s top 3 countries for conflict death, and made Nigeria statistically the most deadly country in the world to be a Christian,” Hundeyin added, pointing to what he described as “a generational loss of middle class professional talent to the US and its allies in Canada, Western Europe, the UK, Australia and New Zealand,” as another of the most deleterious downsides of the undue Western influence on the current government in Nigeria.
