Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has revealed how the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) thoroughly investigated and eventually cleared him of any corrupt conduct following his tenure as the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

Speaking on Friday, October 2, 2026, during the official commissioning of the EFCC Awka Zonal Directorate Office in Anambra State, Soludo offered a personal account of his interaction with the anti-graft agency to highlight its operational professionalism.

Recounting the sequence of events, Soludo explained that years after completing his term as CBN Governor, the EFCC launched a probe into the activities of the Nigerian Security Printing and Minting Plc (NSPM), commonly known as the Mint, where he had served ex-officio as Chairman of the Board of Directors.

Upon receiving formal notice regarding the investigation into the agency’s transactions, Soludo presented himself to the commission to assist with their inquiries.

”While talking about the EFCC, I have a personal testimony to give about what I consider as the professionalism of this agency,” Soludo told attendees at the Awka ceremony. “When I left office as CBN Governor, the EFCC was investigating Nigeria Security Printing and Minting Company… an agency within the bank. I was Chairman of the Board of the Mint and was given a one-month notice of investigation, and I showed up.”

The governor detailed how, after about a year without updates following his initial interview, he proactively wrote to the anti-corruption agency to request a status update on the inquiry.

In response, the EFCC formally communicated that its findings established no evidence of corrupt practices, financial impropriety, or personal wrongdoing against him.

Soludo noted that the leadership of the commission made it clear that despite public speculation at the time, he was never the subject of the investigation, but rather an official providing context regarding the board’s oversight duties.

”After about a year, I didn’t hear from them, so I wrote to them, and they stated that the investigation didn’t show any corrupt action about me,” Soludo added. “When my name was mentioned in connection with the investigation, the former chairman of the EFCC clarified that I was not the subject of the investigation.”

Addressing anti-graft officers, government dignitaries, and security chiefs present at the zonal office inauguration, Governor Soludo commended the EFCC for conducting its duties professionally and relying on evidence-based investigations.

He reaffirmed his administration’s support for the commission’s permanent establishment in Anambra State to combat economic crimes and foster transparent governance.
