Gunmen suspected to be bandits abducted six Nigerian Law School students on Saturday, July 26, 2025, along the Wukari-Benue highway, a notorious route for kidnappings, while they were traveling from Onitsha, Anambra State, to resume academic activities at the Yola Campus in Adamawa State.
The students, identified as Rev. Ernest Okafor, Ogbuka Fabian, Nwamma Philip, Okechukwu Obadiegwu, Obalem Emmanuel, and Obiorah David, were returning after completing their mandatory court externship, with the campus set to reopen on today. The kidnappers have allgedly demanded a ransom of ₦20 million per student, as reported by a fellow student, Johnson.
The Adamawa State Police Command, through spokesperson SP Yahaya Suleiman, acknowledged the incident but clarified it occurred outside their jurisdiction, urging inquiries to the Benue State Police Command, which has reportedly not yet responded.
A student leader at the Yola campus, speaking anonymously to Blueprint Newspapers, expressed shock and said the school is awaiting updates from authorities. The police commands of both states are collaborating to secure the students’ release, with Suleiman emphasizing efforts to ensure traveler safety.
