The Africa Leadership Initiative West Africa (ALIWA) has reaffirmed its commitment to nurturing ethical, value-driven leaders capable of strengthening institutions and driving meaningful societal transformation across the region. The organisation made this known at the launch of its National Leadership Dialogue in Lagos, a new platform designed to bring leaders from diverse sectors together to interrogate institutional and social challenges through open engagement, reflection, and shared learning.
The dialogue, according to ALIWA, is aimed at fostering collaboration among leaders who are committed to principled leadership and long-term national development. Speaking at the event, ALIWA leaders emphasised that Africa’s development challenges are not solely about resources, but about leadership quality, values, and the strength of institutions. They noted that the National Leadership Dialogue would serve as a safe space for honest conversations on governance, accountability, inclusion, and the role of leaders in building resilient societies. Founded over two decades ago, ALIWA is a regional leadership organisation affiliated with the Aspen Institute in the United States.
It was established through a partnership between the Databank Foundation in Ghana and LEAP Africa in Nigeria, with a clear vision of building a “Good Society” that is just, equitable, and sustainable. The organisation has since played a key role in shaping a network of leaders across West Africa who are committed to ethical leadership and positive social change.
