A civil society organisation, Advocates for Good Governance, has commended the Nigeria Police Force for what it described as notable achievements recorded in 2025, while condemning what it called sustained smear campaigns and alleged attempts to force the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Kayode Egbetokun, out of office.
The group said that under the leadership of Egbetokun, the police made visible progress in professionalism, discipline and internal reforms, despite persistent attacks aimed at discrediting the institution and its leadership.
In a statement issued yesterday and signed by its Publicity Secretary, Abe Kolawole, and President General, Ibrahim Ahmed, the organisation warned that media attacks and coordinated online campaigns against the police chief were being sponsored by disgruntled elements seeking to undermine ongoing reforms within the force.
According to the group, the current police leadership has prioritised institutional discipline, accountability and improved operational standards, which have begun to yield positive results across various commands. It noted that these reforms have not only strengthened internal processes but also enhanced public confidence in the police.
Advocates for Good Governance stressed that attempts to remove the Inspector-General through what it described as propaganda and misinformation could derail reform efforts and destabilise the security architecture of the country.
The organisation called on Nigerians, the media and other stakeholders to support the police leadership in consolidating the gains recorded so far, urging constructive engagement rather than campaigns capable of weakening critical security institutions.
It reaffirmed its support for Egbetokun’s leadership and urged the Federal Government to resist pressure from vested interests bent on reversing the progress made within the Nigeria Police Force.
