The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has formally rejected claims by Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (Kaduna Electric) alleging that a transmission fault on the 330kV Jos transmission line contributed to reduced power supply across its franchise area, describing the assertion as false and a deliberate misrepresentation of facts.
​In an official public statement released on Thursday morning, August 27, 2026, by the TCN Management from its Corporate Headquarters in Abuja, the transmission utility confirmed that all 330kV transmission lines servicing Jos and surrounding communities remain fully functional.
​Addressing the specific operational history of the route, TCN stated that the only recent incident recorded on the network occurred days prior to Kaduna Electric’s statement. According to the transmission provider, a routine operational measure was executed to maintain overall grid stability:
The circuit breaker on the Jos–Lafia 330kV Line 2 was opened deliberately for voltage control on August 23 at 3:30am. The circuit breaker was closed on August 24, at 11:59 pm, just before midnight, and full bulk power transmission was restored to service.
All 330kV lines supplying Jos remained fully operational since August 25- 27, 2026, with no recorded bulk transmission outages.
​The response follows an August 26 release by Kaduna Electric, in which the distribution company (DisCo) attributed current load-shedding in its region to two primary factors: a forced outage of one generating unit at the Shiroro Generating Station and an alleged system fault on the 330kV Jos transmission line.
​Kaduna Electric claimed that the alleged fault diverted Shiroro’s output directly toward Jos and neighboring areas, reducing bulk supply to its own network.
The DisCo cited National Control Centre (NCC) figures for August 25 showing an allocation of 104MW (54MW via the Mando 330kV Transmission Station and 50MW via the Birnin-Kebbi axis) to justify reduced power distribution across Kaduna, Zamfara, Kebbi, and Sokoto states.
​TCN management cautioned energy sector operators against publishing unverified operational details that misinform electricity consumers and provoke public anxiety.
The transmission firm urged Kaduna Electric and other DisCos to cross-check grid operational status directly with the National Control Centre before issuing official media communications regarding transmission network integrity.
