Gov. Uba Sani of Kaduna State has urged members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to leave lasting footprints through meaningful community development.
The governor stated this on Wednesday at the closing ceremony of the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream II Orientation Course in Kaduna.
Sani, represented by the Commissioner for Youth Development, Mrs. Gloria Ibrahim, commended the corps members for their discipline, patriotism and commitment throughout the orientation.
He urged them to identify the felt needs of their host communities through the Community Development Service (CDS) and develop initiatives that would positively impact lives.
“Touch lives positively and leave a lasting impact. Do not let the service year pass through you, rather, pass through the service year,” Sani advised.
The governor encouraged the corps members to respect the culture and traditions of their host communities while contributing meaningfully to local development.
He assured them that the state government would continue working with security agencies and NYSC management to ensure their safety throughout the service year.
Sani urged the corps members to remain vigilant, security conscious and mindful of their surroundings, particularly while settling into their host communities.
He also advised them to accept their postings in good faith, settle down quickly and serve with dedication.
The governor appealed to employers in the public and private sectors to warmly receive corps members posted to their organisations.
Sani urged employers to embrace, mentor and provide supportive environments for the corps members to contribute effectively to their organisations.
He also encouraged the corps members to participate actively in the post-camp Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development Programme.
The governor said that the programme would equip them with practical skills to become employers of labour rather than depending solely on available jobs.
Earlier, Mrs. Efeke Dadaza, NYSC Coordinator in Kaduna State, urged them to settle quickly at their various places of primary assignment and serve with determination, integrity and hard work.
She advised them to respect the cultures and traditions of their host communities and avoid moving alone, particularly at night.
The coordinator also appealed to the state government for continued support towards the welfare of corps members during orientation and throughout their service year.
She specifically requested assistance with feeding augmentation, payment of monthly state allowances for corps members serving in government parastatals and provision of a permanent orientation camp.
Dadaza expressed appreciation to stakeholders, particularly the Central Bank of Nigeria, (CBN), Federal Fire Service (FFS), and National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), for their support to the orientation camp.
She also thanked camp officials for their commitment and contributions towards the successful completion of the orientation exercise.
The coordinator disclosed that she would join the ranks of retired senior citizens by October 5, this year, describing the ceremony as possibly her last closing ceremony.
