An American multinational technology corporation, Google has unveiled a new suite of Artificial Intelligence-powered Android features aimed at improving productivity, security, personalisation and digital wellbeing for users globally.
A statement from the organisation on Wednesday said that the announcement was made during “The Android Show: I/O Edition,” ahead of the company’s annual developer conference.
Google LLC, popularly thought to be just a search engine, is an American multinational technology corporation focused on information technology, online advertising, search engine technology, email, cloud computing, software, quantum computing, e-commerce, consumer electronics, and artificial intelligence (AI).
Google said the latest upgrades are powered by Gemini Intelligence and designed to redefine how users interacted with Android devices.
It said that the rollout timeline for the new suite of features would vary across devices and regions between the second half of 2026 and early 2027.
The company noted that Android with more than three billion active devices worldwide, had continued to evolve with features focused on practical everyday use.
“Among the major updates is Task Automation, a Gemini-powered feature that allows users to complete multi-step tasks across applications using voice commands,” it said.
Google said the feature would enable users to perform activities such as booking tours, organising shopping lists, and managing app-based tasks without manually switching between applications.
It said that Task Automation was currently in beta on select devices and was expected to expand to more Android smartphones later in the year.
The organisation said it had also introduced “Rambler”, a new voice typing feature integrated into Gboard.
“This feature is designed to understand users’ intentions and convert natural speech including pauses, corrections, and filler words into polished text messages.
“The technology also supports multilingual conversations within the same sentence.
“Another major update is the introduction of a built-in Gemini browsing assistant for Chrome on Android devices.
“The assistant will help users summarise web pages, explain complex topics, and improve online research directly within the browser without leaving the application,” it said.
The multinational further announced ” Nano Banana”, an image customisation feature that enabled users to generate or modify images directly within Chrome.
Google said the feature could help users convert text-heavy pages into infographics or digitally redesign spaces while browsing online.
In a move aimed at improving cross-platform connectivity, Google said that Quick Share would now support file sharing with Apple AirDrop through QR code technology.
According to the company, the upgrade would simplify media sharing between Android and iOS users.
“Another update is OSmosis. Which is a wireless iPhone-to-Android migration system designed to simplify the transfer of passwords, photos, messages, applications, and home screen layouts without cable.
“The feature will launch first on Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel devices later in the year,” it said.
Google explained that it had expanded its partnership with Meta to bring advanced camera and editing tools directly into Instagram on flagship Android devices.
It noted that the update included Ultra HDR support, video stabilisation, and Night Sight integration for improved low-light photography and video recording.
As part of its digital wellbeing initiatives, Google also introduced “Pause Point”, a feature designed to reduce excessive social media scrolling.
The organisation said the tool would create a mandatory pause before opening selected distracting applications, encouraging users to rethink screen time habits.
Furthermore, Google also unveiled a new biometric theft protection feature that allowed stolen devices to remain locked through fingerprint or facial authentication, even when thieves know the device passcode.
It explained that the security feature would be integrated into devices running Android 17.
In addition, the multinational announced “Noto 3D”, a redesigned emoji system featuring nearly 4,000 new three-dimensional emojis aimed at improving digital expression and communication.
“We further introduced an upgraded Autofill system powered by Gemini Personal Intelligence.
“The feature will securely retrieve information from connected apps and saved documents to complete complex forms automatically across Android applications and Chrome,” it said.
The company also announced “Create My Widget,” a generative artificial intelligence feature that allowed users to design custom widgets using natural language prompts.
Google said the feature would enable users to create personalised dashboards for activities such as meal planning, weather tracking and productivity management.
