The philanthropic arm of Google, has launched an Apolitical Government Artificial Intelligence (AI) Campus aimed at equipping Nigerian public servants with cutting-edge digital and AI skills to enhance governance and service delivery.
The initiative, unveiled on Thursday in Abuja, is being implemented in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy. The AI Campus is described as a trusted global hub for AI excellence in government, designed to help public sector workers harness the power of artificial intelligence for improved policy making, data management, and citizen engagement.
Speaking at the launch, Google’s representative said the programme reflects the company’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s digital transformation agenda by empowering civil servants with the knowledge and tools needed to drive innovation within government institutions.
Through this collaboration, we aim to help Nigerian public servants understand and apply AI responsibly and effectively to solve real governance challenges,” the statement read.
The Apolitical Government AI Campus will provide training modules covering topics such as ethical AI use, data-driven decision-making, and digital transformation in governance. Participants will also gain access to a global network of experts and case studies demonstrating how AI is transforming public service delivery in other parts of the world.
Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, who represented the Federal Government at the event, lauded Google.org’s support and reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to leveraging emerging technologies for national development.

He noted that the programme would complement the Federal Government’s ongoing initiatives under the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy, which seeks to integrate AI solutions into public administration, health, education, and security systems.
The training, according to Google.org, will commence with a pilot phase involving select ministries, departments, and agencies before expanding nationwide.
Observers say the initiative marks a significant step toward positioning Nigeria as a leader in AI-driven governance across Africa.
