Nigeria’s digital service provider, Globacom, has launched a first-of-its-kind Device Protection cover for its subscribers, offering affordable insurance for mobile phones against screen and water damage.
The new service developed in partnership with technology solutions firm Cubecover, marks a significant step toward making mobile device protection more accessible to everyday users. For as low as ₦50 per day, Glo subscribers can now insure their smartphones and receive up to ₦50,000 in claims for screen repairs or replacements in the event of accidental damage.
Mojeed Aluko, Head of Value Added Services at Globacom, described the initiative as a customer-centric innovation aimed at reducing the financial burden that comes with smartphone repairs.
“As a responsive and innovative network, we are leveraging this opportunity to provide meaningful protection to our customers, helping them stay connected even in the event of accidental damage,” Aluko stated.
The subscription plans are designed for flexibility and affordability. Users can choose from daily (₦50), weekly (₦300), or monthly (₦600) protection options. After maintaining an active subscription for at least one month, customers become eligible for free screen repairs or replacement coverage up to the ₦50,000 limit.
To enrol, Glo users simply dial *70131# on their phones and select their preferred plan. For new users, the service is available instantly at any Gloworld shop nationwide upon SIM or device purchase. Once the subscription fee is deducted from the user’s airtime, the customer receives a link to complete a quick screen test. If the device passes the scan, its IMEI number is automatically registered with Cubecover, activating the protection.
The tech-enabled onboarding process has been praised for its simplicity and speed. According to Deji Macaulay, Managing Director of Cubecover, This partnership is designed to remove the stress of accidental phone damage by giving users access to fast and paperless support.
Globacom says this new service reflects its broader commitment to innovation and customer satisfaction. With the rising cost of smartphone repairs and replacements, especially in Nigeria’s inflation-hit economy, the telco’s Device Protection cover is expected to resonate strongly with users seeking peace of mind and affordability.
