The Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology and Environmental Sciences (FUTES), Iyin Ekiti, Prof. Gbenga Aribisala, has announced that the new institution will commence academic programmes in October with four pioneer faculties.
Speaking at a reception organised in his honour by the 1979 set of Ifaki Grammar School Old Students Association, Aribisala listed the faculties as Engineering, Computer Science, Natural and Applied Sciences, and Environmental science.

He said the university was working towards operating a fully residential system to raise disciplined graduates and 21st-century leaders capable of addressing Nigeria’s challenges, particularly unemployment.
Our vision is clear FUTES must stand out as Africa’s number one university. We are committed to building a problem-solving, human-centred institution. This is not about making money but about making Nigeria great, the VC declared.

Aribisala added that adverts for recruitment would soon be published, cautioning applicants against fraudulent agents, and assuring that only credible scholars would be engaged. He disclosed that the National Universities Commission had already conducted a resource verification exercise, expressing confidence that the university would secure final approval ahead of the October admission.
The coordinator of the IGSOSA 1979 set, Mr. Olajide Familoye, described Aribisala’s appointment as a collective success, while the university’s Registrar, Mr. Oluwole Dada, reaffirmed FUTES’ readiness to deliver academic excellence.
