Some teachers in Bauchi State have appealed to the State Government to fulfill its promise by addressing the issues of unpaid leave grants and improving infrastructure and learning materials.
They said these would promote a conducive environment for effective teaching and learning.
The teachers made the appeal on Tuesday in separate interviews in Bauchi, as they resumed academic activities after the Ramadan holidays.
The Headmaster, Sa’adu Zungur Model Primary School, Sunusi Hamza, expressed satisfaction with the turnout of students, noting that many pupils reported to their schools promptly.
While commending the commitment of both teachers and students, he emphasised the need for the state government to invest more in the educational sector to enhance productivity and learning outcomes.
“We are happy to see our students return in large numbers. However, we continue to face challenges in infrastructure, lack of teaching materials, and unresolved welfare issues like leave grants,” Hamza said.
Malam Danladi Abi-Doka, the Vice Principal, Government Junior Secondary School, Games Village, Bauchi, expressed joy at the large turnout of students on resumption day.
He urged parents and guardians to send their children back to school to support the present administration in reshaping the future of the education sector in the state.
Also, Dr Mercy John, the Principal of Sabil Sunlight, Bauchi, urged the government to prioritise the education sector to build a better future for the children.
She advised parents not to relent in their efforts by sending their wards to schools immediately after the holidays.
“There is no need to keep children at home when the school has resumed, and teachers should also put in their best by giving the students basic knowledge,” John said.
