AN online series on “The economic impact of subsidy removal in Nigeria” was held by the Department of Economics, which is part of the Faculty of Arts, Social, and Management Sciences, today, July 28, 2025. The Nigeria Economic Society President, Prof. Adeola Adenikinju, was the event’s speaker.

Both positive and negative effects of the subsidy removal have been felt in Nigeria’s economy. Since gasoline subsidies were removed, which were implemented to control budget deficits and fight corruption, the price of gasoline has increased dramatically. A chain reaction has been triggered by this increase, which has affected several economic sectors.

Students and instructors engaged in a fruitful discussion about the difficulties associated with the removal of subsidies’ economic impact. The goal of Hensard University is to raise students’ awareness of local and global issues that affect the Nigerian economy and the common citizen.

I want to express my gratitude to Prof. Adeola Adenikinju, The Nigeria Economic Society President, for his thought-provoking speech.
