Former Governor and FCT Minister, NYESOM WIKE and Governor of Rivers State, SIMI FUBARA...estranged political allies
Governor Siminalayi Fubara has called on his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, to relinquish any control he wishes to maintain over Rivers State and allow peace to prevail in the oil-rich region.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s ‘Politics Today’ program on Monday, monitored by Daily Query, Fubara expressed that he has no regrets about conducting the local government election in the state last Saturday, despite facing resistance from members of Wike’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“I have the courage to take these actions,” the Governor stated, urging Wike to let go of any perceived influence he thinks he has over the South-South state.

Fubara emphasized that he has honored all previous agreements he had with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in an effort to maintain peace, yet tensions have continued to rise.

“I have done everything possible to ensure peace,” Fubara said, recounting the many times he has humbly sought to resolve conflicts and allow harmony to return to the state.

When asked what he would convey to Wike if they were to meet, Fubara responded, “I would tell him that it has reached a point where he must let go. We need peace in this state.”

He emphasized that not every battle needs to be fought, suggesting that sometimes it is better to step back for the good of the people of Rivers State and out of love for the state.

“We need to secure the state,” he added, noting that while he may be in office now, the future is uncertain regarding who will follow him.

Fubara acknowledged that the election season has ended and it is now time to focus on governance, appealing to the FCT minister whom he addressed as “my oga” (my boss) to allow Rivers and its citizens and residents to live in peace.

“Wike once Governed this state, which was envied by others. Now another person is in charge, and what we need is support. In four years or eight years, I will also leave, and someone else will take over. That should be the mindset,” Fubara noted.

He pointed out that while election periods are marked by competition and conflict, the current focus should be on governance, where cooperation and support are essential.

Fubara also clarified that he is not responsible for the destruction of local government secretariats in Rivers State, making it clear that he is committed to the state’s peace and progress.
