The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed, has raised alarm over what he described as a growing trend of reckless road use by some celebrities, content creators and social media influencers, warning that such behaviour poses grave dangers to lives and undermines national road safety efforts.
Mohammed expressed the concern following a widely circulated video involving popular TikTok streamer, Habeeb Hamzat, also known as Peller, who was reportedly seen engaging in a live video stream while driving. The incident, according to reports, resulted in a road traffic crash.
The FRSC boss described the act as irresponsible and dangerous, stressing that distracted driving—especially while operating a mobile phone—remains one of the leading causes of road crashes in the country.
He noted that when public figures engage in such behaviour, it not only endangers their lives and those of other road users but also sends the wrong message to millions of followers who may seek to imitate them.
Mohammed warned that fame or social media influence does not place anyone above traffic laws, adding that the corps would not hesitate to apply the full weight of the law against offenders, regardless of their status.
He urged celebrities and content creators to use their platforms positively by promoting safe driving habits rather than engaging in actions that glorify recklessness on the roads.
The Corps Marshal also called on motorists to prioritise safety at all times, advising drivers to avoid phone use while driving, obey traffic regulations and remain focused behind the wheel.
He reaffirmed the FRSC’s commitment to reducing road crashes through enforcement, public education and collaboration with stakeholders, while appealing to Nigerians to see road safety as a shared responsibility that requires discipline and caution from all road users.
