The immediate past Commissioner for Education in Edo State, Paddy Iyamu, has formally declared his intention to contest for the Oredo Federal House of Representatives seat, setting the stage for a fresh political contest in the constituency.

Iyamu made his declaration on Friday at the All Progressives Congress Secretariat in Oredo Local Government Area, where party leaders, supporters, and key stakeholders gathered in a show of solidarity. The event was marked by celebrations and endorsements from party faithful, signalling early support for his ambition.

Addressing the gathering, Iyamu dismissed claims that he is not a grassroots politician, insisting that his political journey and contributions to the party over the years speak for themselves. He maintained that his involvement in the growth of the All Progressives Congress in Oredo dates back to 2016, stressing that he has consistently worked for the success of the party and its candidates.

He specifically referenced his role in past elections, including mobilising support for Senator Monday Okpebholo, as well as various empowerment initiatives he has carried out across the local government area. According to him, his programmes have focused on supporting women and youths, particularly through sustained empowerment schemes.

Iyamu noted that since 2019, he has maintained women empowerment programmes across several wards, including a monthly support initiative in Ward 10, which he said demonstrates his connection with grassroots communities and his commitment to improving livelihoods.

He assured party members and supporters that, if elected, he would provide quality representation, attract development projects to Oredo Federal Constituency, and ensure that the voices of the people are heard at the National Assembly.

The declaration signals the beginning of political activities ahead of the House of Representatives race in Oredo, with party stakeholders expected to play crucial roles in determining the party’s candidate in the coming months.
