An increasing number of foreign nationals are making formal appeals to secure Nigerian passports and settle in the country, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Director of Diaspora Mobilisation for the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (PBAT)/All Progressives Congress (APC) 2027 Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), disclosed on Wednesday, October 21, 2026.
Speaking during a media briefing held at 11:00 AM at the campaign directorate’s headquarters in Abuja, Dabiri-Erewa revealed that requests for Nigerian citizenship have risen sharply in recent months.
“On my table, you see a lot of people telling us to beg the President to be able to give them Nigerian passports. Ask the Minister of Interior. It’s too much,” Dabiri-Erewa told reporters, emphasizing that foreign interest in living and investing in Nigeria reflects growing confidence in the nation’s future trajectory.
In her address, Dabiri-Erewa urged Nigerians residing abroad to maintain a constructive relationship with their homeland, framing the engagement between the country and its citizens in the diaspora as a mutually beneficial economic and cultural partnership.
“Our appeal to Nigerians in the diaspora is that Nigeria needs you, and you also need Nigeria. It is a symbiotic relationship. Let us continue to deepen that relationship and make it stronger and better. We should not discourage anyone from sending money home,” she stated.
The Director of Diaspora Mobilisation outlined a five-point strategic campaign plan designed by her directorate to mobilize support among Nigerians abroad for President Tinubu’s re-election bid.
The initiative focuses on key objectives, Building robust global support networks for the campaign. Enhancing direct communication channels with diaspora organisations.
Protecting Nigeria’s international image and brand, Countering misinformation about government policies and facilitating investment opportunities for citizens abroad.
The strategy unveiling follows the formal inauguration of the APC Presidential Campaign Council by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on October 14, 2026, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where former Zamfara State Governor, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, was named PCC Director-General.
Following the directorate briefing, the APC PCC and its various wings are completing preparations ahead of the official nationwide campaign flag-off, scheduled for Saturday, October 24, 2026, in Kaduna, Kaduna State, where President Tinubu is expected to address supporters.
